If you want a supercar that combines classic beauty, cutting-edge technology, and exhilarating performance, look no further than the Gordon Murray T.33 Spider. This is the latest creation from Gordon Murray Automotive, the company founded by the legendary designer of the McLaren F1 and many Formula One cars. The T.33 Spider is a convertible version of the T.33 coupe, revealed last year as a tribute to the 1960s sports racers that inspired Murray.

The T.33 Spider features a pair of removable carbon-fiber roof panels that can be stored in the front trunk, leaving behind a sleek and streamlined profile that is reminiscent of a targa or a speedster. The roofless design also allows the driver and passenger to enjoy the full symphony of the engine: a 3.9-liter V12 that revs up to 11,100 rpm and produces 607 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This engine, developed by Cosworth, is the lightest road-going V12 in the world, weighing only 392 pounds.

The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox from Xtrac, giving the driver complete control over the car's behavior. The T.33 Spider does not rely on electronic aids or gimmicks to deliver its performance; instead, it focuses on pure driving pleasure and feedback. The car's weight is kept to a minimum thanks to its carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and body panels. The T.33 Spider is expected to weigh only 2,094 pounds, just 40 pounds more than the coupe.

The car's aerodynamics are also optimized for efficiency and stability, using Murray's ground effect and passive boundary layer control (PBLC) expertise. The PBLC system uses clever underbody ducting and a rear diffuser to create downforce without adding drag, while a discreet active rear spoiler adjusts according to speed and driving mode. The car's upper surface remains clean and elegant, with a central air intake that feeds air into the engine bay.

The T.33 Spider's design is influenced by Murray's fascination with cleanly styled and gorgeously proportioned '60s sports cars, such as the Ferrari 250 GTO and the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato. The car's timeless appeal will not fade with fashion or trends. The car also offers some customization options for the buyers, who can choose from four design themes inspired by Murray's core values of beauty and engineering art, as well as his personal tastes in tartan and tropical shirts.

The T.33 Spider is a limited-edition model, with only 100 units planned for production. Each car will cost $2.3 million at current exchange rates, making it a rare and exclusive machine for discerning collectors and enthusiasts. The T.33 Spider is not just another supercar; it is a masterpiece of automotive engineering and design that celebrates Gordon Murray's vision and legacy.
