Hyundai has unveiled its latest electric vehicle, the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England. The Ioniq 5 N is the first N model based on a dedicated EV platform, and it aims to set a new benchmark for high-performance EVs and driving fun.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is based on the Ioniq 5, Hyundai's first model built on the E-GMP platform that offers fast charging, long range, and spacious interior. The Ioniq 5 N takes the design and technology of the Ioniq 5 to the next level with enhanced performance, handling, and styling.
Performance and Handling
The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is powered by a dual-motor system that delivers 320 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque combined. The Ioniq 5 N can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 5.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N also features a range of driving modes, including Eco, Normal, Sport, Sport+, and Custom. Each mode adjusts the power delivery, steering response, suspension stiffness, and sound enhancement to suit different driving situations and preferences.
The Ioniq 5 N is equipped with an electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD) that distributes torque between the rear wheels for optimal traction and stability. The e-LSD also enables the Ioniq 5 N to perform controlled drifts on a closed track, adding to the driving fun.
The Ioniq 5 N also boasts a high-performance braking system with larger discs and calipers, as well as an adaptive suspension system that automatically adjusts the damping force according to the road conditions and driving mode.
Styling and Features
The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N stands out from the regular Ioniq 5 with its sporty and aggressive design cues. The Ioniq 5 N features a unique front bumper with larger air intakes, a rear bumper with a diffuser and dual exhaust tips, and side skirts that enhance the aerodynamics.
The Ioniq 5 N also sports a distinctive N logo on the front grille, fenders, and tailgate, as well as exclusive 20-inch alloy wheels with a dark gray finish. The Ioniq 5 N is available in six exterior colors, including Performance Blue, which is exclusive to the N models.
The interior of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N reflects its high-performance character with sporty and premium elements. The Ioniq 5 N features bucket seats with integrated headrests and N logos, a sports steering wheel with paddle shifters and drive mode buttons, and an aluminum pedal set.
The Ioniq 5 N also comes with a digital instrument cluster and a head-up display that show various performance data, such as speed, torque, power, lap times, and g-force. The infotainment system features a 12-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a Harman Kardon sound system.
The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N offers a spacious, versatile cabin with a flat floor and sliding center console. The rear seats can be reclined, folded, or slid forward to create more cargo space. The Ioniq 5 N also has a front trunk that can store up to 2.1 cubic feet of items.
Pricing and Availability
Hyundai has not announced the pricing and availability of the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N yet, but it is expected to go on sale in select markets in late 2023 or early 2024. The Ioniq 5 N will compete with other high-performance EVs, such as the Tesla Model Y Performance, the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, and the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX.
The Ioniq 5 N is part of Hyundai's plan to expand its N lineup of performance-oriented models. Hyundai currently offers the Hyundai Veloster N, the Elantra N, and the Hyundai Kona N in some markets and plans to introduce more N models based on its EVs in the future.
The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is a high-performance EV that promises driving fun without compromising on efficiency, practicality, or comfort. It is a showcase of Hyundai's technological prowess and design innovation in the EV segment.
