Mitsubishi Motors unveiled the latest generation ASX in a special online event. The new Mitsubishi ASX ("Active Sports X-over") is positioned at the heart of the SUV class, succeeding the previous generation ASX, which sold around 380,000 vehicles in Europe.

The new Mitsubishi ASX SUV was designed exclusively for the European market and is based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance CMF-B platform. It has various powertrain options, including Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), full Hybrid (HEV), and Mild Hybrid.

"SUV growth and electrification are the dominant trends in today's European market, and this is set to continue - the new ASX is perfectly suited for the European market as an electrified SUV, with a full package of advanced technology and infotainment," said Frank Krol, President, and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Europe.

The new Mitsubishi ASX is inspired by Mitsubishi Motors' characteristic 'Dynamic Shield' front fascia, which conveys both sturdiness and vitality while framing the classic Mitsubishi three-diamond insignia.

The Mitsubishi ASX has a fluid and dynamic stance thanks to its side profile, which features wide, high shoulders. Furthermore, the choice of 17" or 18" wheels gives the new ASX a powerful appearance. The back complements the sporty design.

The lights are typical LED lights, as are the front lights. The rear profile is completed with the new ASX nameplate and the Mitsubishi brand above the tailgate. Six colors will be offered from the start, along with a black roof on higher trim levels for a two-tone look.

The inside of the new Mitsubishi ASX combines beauty and comfort with room and versatility. It has a load capacity of 332 liters, which increases by 69 liters when the movable rear seat is in the forward position.

The new Mitsubishi ASX SUV comes standard with a keyless entry system except for the entry-level variants. When the driver gets within about one meter of the vehicle, the technology recognizes the key and instantly opens the doors. Similarly, when departing the vehicle, the system automatically locks the doors as soon as the key leaves a one-meter radius of the car and cannot be reached.

Because of the elevated entry and seating posture that SUV owners love, getting in and out is easier with the doors unlocked. Depending on the model level, various fabric and leather trim options are available, climate control keeps a comfortable interior temperature all year, and heated seats and a heated steering wheel provide comfort in the winter months.

The Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA) in the dashboard's center is the primary interface between the driver and the vehicle's systems and infotainment. The SDA is available in 7" landscape and 9.3" portrait forms, with standard wireless smartphone connectivity (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and BOSE Premium Audio on the highest model.

Higher trim levels have 3D navigation as standard, as well as various customization choices ranging from user profiles and widgets to driving modes via the Multi-Sense system.

Personalization options are also available for the digital driver display. On the new Mitsubishi ASX, three levels of driver display are offered, ranging from an analog one with a 4.2" screen to a configurable mid-level digital display with a 7" screen to a fully customizable 10" digital driver display that also reflects navigation directions.

The ASX comes standard with a full suite of passive safety features, including front and side airbags for the driver and passenger, two side curtain airbags, seat belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, anti-whiplash head restraints, and ISOFix child seat anchorage points. The standard Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) system improves pedestrian protection, while the hood, front bumper, headlights, and lower windscreen are carefully designed to lessen the chance of injuries.

The new Mitsubishi ASX also includes a comprehensive set of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) characteristics for maximum safety and security. Forward Collision Mitigation systems with pedestrian protection, distance warning, lane departure warning, lane assist, traffic sign recognition, cruise control, parking sensors, and reverse camera are all standard models. Blind spot warnings, lane centering aid, speed limit assistance, adaptive cruise control (with Stop & Go), and automatic high beams are available on higher-end models.

The new ASX boasts a variety of innovative and electrified powertrains, ranging from low emissions and fuel economy to performance. The entry engine is a revolutionary three-cylinder 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. A 1.3-liter turbo with direct injection is paired with a Mild Hybrid system that includes a belt-driven starter generator and a 12V lithium-ion battery. Customers can select a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT).

Mitsubishi ASX

The new Mitsubishi ASX will be the first Mitsubishi model in Europe to include a full hybrid (HEV) powertrain, consisting of a 1.6-liter petrol engine, two electric motors, and an automatic multi-mode transmission.

The Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) variant will be the most expensive. The PHEV system has a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, two electric motors, and a 10.5-kWh battery. As a result, the new Mitsubishi ASX follows in the PHEV and SUV footsteps of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV.

The new Mitsubishi ASX will be manufactured in Spain at Renault's Valladolid facility.
