The Mazda MX-5 is the world's best-selling roadster in history. So far, since the beginning of the production in 1989, the Japanese from Mazda has manufactured over one million MX-5 units. The recipe is as simple as it can be - it takes a four-cylinder engine, it sits longitudinally, and the power is directed to the rear axle.
It must also be convertible, has two seats, a manual transmission and, most importantly, be accessible. These are the key ingredients for which such a car has such a large community of fans.
The Mazda MX-5 is the kind of car you get used to in record time. It only took me a few seconds to familiarize myself with the size of the car, and the steering position is ideal, thanks to its depth adjustment, introduced in the 2019 version.
If I were to choose a manual transmission and drive it all my life, it would be, without question, a Mazda MX-5 sports car. The top version benefits from a substantial increase in power, now 184 hp. The throttle response is instantaneous, and the speedometer needle rises rapidly to 7500 rpm.
The interior space is at the limit for people over 1.8 meters high, but this is part of the personality of the car. There is no torpedo, it does not have pockets in the doors, but there is a fairly large compartment behind the seats.
